Everett ready for sausages, fun
Published 3:42 pm Wednesday, October 1, 2008
October in Everett means Sausage Fest time, and organizers are set to welcome guests for the 32nd annual event starting today.
A 24-foot-high rock wall proved to be popular at last year’s festival, said entertainment director Craig Cooke, so it was brought back for 2008.
A qualified staff will supervise the rock wall and advise participants of the best routes to the top.
“The Everett Sausage Fest is Everett’s No. 1 festival, and it’s free!” Cooke said, adding that along with new vendors, this year’s event will feature KRKO AM 1380 Northsound-ESPN broadcasting live, from 3 to 6 p.m. today, and people should come to check that out.
Visitors also can expect ongoing stage entertainment.
Family Stage highlights include the Immaculate Conception-Our Lady of Perpetual Help School’s talent show at 5:30 tonight; J.P. Patches at 2 p.m. Saturday and The Reptile Isle, with its snakes, lizards, spiders and other creatures, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Beer garden fun includes The New Blues Brothers from 8 to 10 tonight, The Machine’s party music from 10:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday and Expertease’s ’70s to current music from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
In addition, the beer garden will offer several viewing spots from noon to 4 p.m. for Sunday’s sports on TV.
Kids can get their fill of games with a Big Top area for fishing, dart-throwing, frisbee-tossing and other activities for which prizes will be awarded, and a carnival area will be set up, with wristbands offered for all-day and all-night excitement.
Visitors also will find more than 30 arts and crafts booths and a farmers market offering fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.
To fend off hunger, more than 17 food booths will be in place, serving barbecued chicken, salmon and the classic festival favorites like hamburgers, corn on the cob and elephant ears. Plus, of course, the Bavarian Dinner Haus serves a traditional dinner.
A Sausage Festival Shuttle Bus will run between the festival grounds and Everett Transit Station at 3201 Smith Ave. every 30 minutes, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
