Lake Stevens family burned out of home

LAKE STEVENS — A nasty fire Thursday night displaced a family and kept firefighters busy for several hours.

Crews responded to a call about a fire in the attic of a ­single-family home in the 900 block of N. Machias Road around 7:30 p.m., Lake Stevens Fire Battalion Chief Travis Hots said.

Nobody was hurt, but the family will have to stay somewhere else until the house is fixed.

The damage is estimated at about $25,000.

The fire most likely started in the chimney, Hots said.

Crews had to tear through the walls and the ceiling to get to the fire, Hots said.

“It was a tough fire that took us quite a while to extinguish,” he said.
