SNOHOMISH — Glacier Peak suffered its first Wesco South loss on Thursday night at Snohomish Veterans Memorial Stadium, falling 2-0 to Meadowdale.
“I think Meadowdale is the first tough match that we’ve had and with a young team it’s good to play tough teams right away,” Glacier Peak head coach Melinda Torre said.
Julia Fjortoft scored twice for Meadowdale (2-0 league and overall) in the first half. She scored off an assist by Krista Bartkowski in the 29th minute and again — unassisted — in the 35th.
The Grizzlies (1-1) had several opportunities to score in the second half but couldn’t connect.
“Brooke Gilbert put in a strong performance for us,” Torre said. “She served some beautiful crosses and kept the ball moving. She’s the central player that we always move the ball through.”
Nicki Giovine was the goalkeeper for Glacier Peak.
