The good and the bad

Today, we have good news and bad news. Let’s start with …
The good news: Tech columnist Walter Mossberg says a wireless Internet service that will soon be available on some airlines will let passengers do almost everything in the air that they can do at home or in the office.
You’ll also be able to do some things you can’t do at home or at work, such as find out what happens when you drop your BlackBerry in your tomato juice after the plane hits turbulence at 30,000 feet.
The bad news: If you like to chat on the phone while you drive, you’ll be risking a ticket starting July 1 unless you use a hands-free device.
The hands-free requirement will not be met by telling police how skilled you are at steering with your knees.
If a getaway isn’t in the cards this summer, there are plenty of things to do close to home, such as a local outdoor movie series or free admission days at nearby museums.
If neither of those things tickles your fancy, try making your own sangria. After a few glasses of that, you’ll probably have lots of ideas for things to do this summer. But you should wait until the next morning before you leap into action, just in case cow tipping and swimming to Jetty Island in the buff are harder than you thought.
