If he would just take the plea, he could get back to things that have the state’s blessing — like selling pull-tabs and scratch lottery tickets. Those games are OK because the state always wins.

“4400” fans know how to teach a TV network a lesson. USA canceled the sci-fi show last month, and since then fans have bombarded the network’s offices with sunflower seeds, a favorite of one of the show’s characters.

Fans may not have any luck with “4400,” but they are getting the network’s attention. USA executives are thinking about canceling “House” reruns so they can be showered with Vicodin pills.

George Will rails against the “plague” of early voting in his column today. He says all the vote-by-mail states are hurting Barack Obama because people are voting before they get to know him. In Will’s ideal world, we’d turn back the clock a century and everyone would go to the polls on Election Day.

Just think how great Obama’s chances would be if it were 1908 instead of 2008. Hillary Clinton wouldn’t even be allowed to vote.
