Snowflakes, they are a fallin’

Snow in Western Washington seems to produce three simple reactions: Love, hate and scary driving. Scary driving was sadly evident Saturday.
If the snow didn’t get you in a nice, wintery mood, here’s a few stories to help.
Dog sleds. If a half-inch of snow doesn’t satisfy you, you can try dog sledding in New England. The downsides: sub-zero nights and a lot of work to get water from under a thick layer of ice. The upsides: You’ll never appreciate a bonfire more and the stars will take away what breath you have left after the cold.
Some like it cold. In fact, too many like it cold. And environmentalists and scientists worry all those visitors to the Antarctic will harm the fragile ecosystem. A fair concern. You can’t put too much faith in the mental state of people who travel, for fun, to a place 98 percent covered in ice with a low temperature of -130.
Bad driving. No snow is required to make the driving in Smokey Point miserable (above), although the snow Saturday probably didn’t help. Maybe it’ll snow enough that drivers can start using snowmobiles. That’d open up some space on the roads.
