Defense carries La Conner by Darrington
Published 11:50 pm Tuesday, December 11, 2007
LA CONNER — After the Darrington Loggers had five 3-pointers in the first half and the La Conner Braves turned the ball over 11 times, La Conner coach Scott Novak knew his team would have to improve if was going to get a win.
“Man or zone we covered out (to the perimeter) better,” Novak said.
The defensive strategy worked for the Braves as they kept the Loggers from making a 3-pointer in the second half and had just three turnovers en route to a 52-36 Northwest 1A/2B League win Tuesday.
Still, going into the fourth quarter it was anyone’s game with the Loggers behind two points.
“They did everything right and we didn’t do anything right,” Darrington head coach Jeff Bryson said about the fourth quarter.
Bryson said his team got too perimeter oriented in the fourth period and the Logger front court of Mike Parris and Nick Olsen each having four fouls only added to the problem.
Taylor Thostenson led the Braves with 17 points and seven of Jason Lindeman’s 14 points came in the fourth quarter.
