A five-bedroom, three-bath historic Craftsman two-story near downtown Granite Falls is our featured home today. It was built in 1916 and has recently undergone a to-the-studs remodel, including new plumbing, electrical, furnace, siding, roofing and flooring. Original leaded glass windows, paneled walls and wood trim have been retained.

There are two covered porches, one at the front and one at the side. Both include beveled-glass doors accessing the main living area of the house.

The front door opens to a formal living room with Brazilian cherry flooring, picture windows on two sides, and a box-beam ceiling.

To the right is a sitting room with the same flooring. Other features include picture railing, plate railing, three vertical windows with window seat, and a propane fireplace with marble tile hearth and surround and decorative wood mantel.

One bedroom adjoins the sitting area and has Brazilian cherry flooring, a standard closet and a window overlooking a side yard.

Nearby is a full bathroom with double access. Its highlights include tile flooring, a clawfoot bathtub, custom single vanity topped with granite, and a shower with tile surround.

The home’s side door opens to an approximately 365 square-feet formal dining room, also with Brazilian cherry. Other features include plate railing, wainscoting, box-beam ceiling, and several windows overlooking a side yard.

A U-shaped kitchen is adjacent to the dining room. It has Brazilian cherry flooring and cabinets, granite slab countertops, recessed lighting, pantry closet with etched glass door, stainless steel appliances, and a window above the sink.

Two more bedrooms complete the entry level.

Six steps down from the kitchen is a potential mother-in-law unit with a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchenette and separate entrance. The bedroom has cut pile carpeting and corner windows. Bathroom features include tile flooring, pedestal sink, and shower-tub combination with fiberglass surround.

Six steps up from the kitchen is an owner’s suite with vaulted cathedral ceiling, walk-in closet, multiple windows, and a full bathroom. The bathroom has a shower-tub combination with tile surround, and an elongated double vanity made of maple and topped with cultured marble.
