Rabbit for Thanksgiving

Published 10:27 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2007

We’re sticking with Bugs: As you watch Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade today, watch for a large silvery rabbit. The latest balloon to join the menagerie is based on a sculpture in the Museum of Modern Art.

Considering the mood holiday shopping puts The Buzz in, we think a balloon based on Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” would be more appropriate.

Time to talk turkey: Turns out you can’t blame the tryptophan in turkey meat when you doze off in front of the TV later this afternoon or for the extra pounds you’ll notice on the bathroom scale.

What’s most likely to blame are all those carbs and booze. Being fat and sleepy doesn’t sound like a problem, until you remember that that’s how Tom ended up on your table in the first place.

Kids say the darnedest things: The Herald sent a reporter and photographer to Kent Prairie Elementary School in Arlington to ask them how to cook a turkey and about the history of Thanksgiving. A sample: MaKenzie Leathers tells us that a pilgrim is a type of nut.

Truth be told, if we asked the same questions of most adults, the answers would still be wrong — just not as cute.
