45-point second half boosts E-W

Published 11:20 pm Thursday, December 27, 2007

EDMONDS—During the holiday break it’s sometimes tough for teams to get back into the normal routine of playing basketball.

Such was the case when the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors stumbled to a 19-19 first-half tie with Blanchet Thursday night.

The Warriors quickly got their game back on track by scoring 45 points in the second half and defeated Blanchet 64-44 in a non-conference boys basketball game at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

“I think the kids in the first half were still on holiday. They got it together in the second half,” E-W coach Gail Pintler said.

Connor Donaldson scored 14 of the Warriors’ 20 third-quarter points and finished with a season-high 24 points on the night.

The senior forward also pulled down six rebounds before leaving the game after twisting his left knee at the end of the third quarter.

James Conti scored 13 points and added four assists and six rebounds for the Warriors.

Edmonds-Woodway (7-2 overall) struggled in the first half, shooting 25 percent from the field.

They warmed up in the second half, shooting 67 percent.

“Instead of shooting 25 percent, we shot closer to what our shooting percentage should be,” Pintler said, referring to the reason for the 45 second-half points.
