SHORELINE — The King’s High School girls’ basketball team has an illustrious history, having won state titles in 1997, 2005, 2006, and garnering a second place finish last year.
But the 3A Shorecrest Scots had little trouble dispensing with the 1A Knights, winning the non-league contest 44-24 Monday at Shorecrest High School.
The Scots jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead and took aa 29-17 lead into the intermission.
Shorecrest held King’s scoreless in the third quarter and easily held on for the 20-point win.
“We came out and played tough defense and they went cold (from the field),” Shorecrest coach Jon Rasmussen said.
Jocelyn Riordan was a one-woman force for the Scots. The 5-foot-8 shooting guard led all scorers with 16 points, and added 11 rebounds, six steals and three blocks.
“She played an all-around good game,” Rasmussen added.
Caroline Towles had nine points for the Scots.
Laura Friar led King’s with six points.

Foster 60, Lakewood 54, OT: At Marysville, the Lakewood Cougars took Foster to overtime and lost for the second year in a row.
Foster outscored Lakewood 19-12 in the opening quarter, but the Cougars came back in the second to take a 34-32 halftime lead.
But second-half free throw shooting proved to be the difference, as Foster shot 14-for-22 from the charity stripe to the Cougars’ 11-for-23.
“We just put them at the free throw line (too often),” Lakewood coach Chris Walster said. “The made the most of their chances at the line and we didn’t.”
Lakewood had a chance to win the game with 2.1 seconds left, but the Cougars missed the second free throw after hitting the first to send the game into overtime.
