Monroe’s Kyle, Lakewood’s Perry named WIAA Athletes of the Week

Monroe sophomore Colby Kyle and Lakewood sophomore Jelly Perry were named WIAA Athletes of the Week for boys basketball last week (Week 16 of the school year).

Kyle, the 4A honoree, had 21 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots in a win over Mariner, and added 17 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots in a Monroe loss to undefeated Cascade.

Perry had 10 points and seven steals in a five-point loss to Archbishop Murphy and followed that up with a game-high 13 points, 19 rebounds, seven steals and two blocked shots in a 53-27 victory against Cedar Park Christian-Bothell to earn the 2A award.

South Whidbey senior Donovan Miller was also honored for 1A boys basketball after scoring 26 points in a contest against Friday Harbor.

According to the WIAA website, “Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the week.” Each winner receives a letter of recognition from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a WIAA Athlete of the Week beanie and a certificate.
