50 years ago (1957)
Back from several months’ study in New York was Sally Heller, local dancer who was making plans to open her own studio in Everett. Heller had studied at the June Taylor Dancing Studios and had taken instruction in Hawaiian dancing.
The District champion Castle Tavern team of Everett opened play in the Washington State Men’s Softball tournament at Wenatchee tomorrow. On the team were Don Lingel, Duke Rainbolt, Harold Perrault, Ken Snyder, Leon Josephson, Warren Larson, Bob Schultz, Hank Haverlock, Jim Price, Ron Fuller, Bob Jones and Glen Purnell. Ty Hopper was manager and Lynn Young was sponsor.
25 years ago (1982)
Wilson’s Delicatessen, at 26th Street and Rucker Avenue, had been in the same family for more than 30 years.
What made it so successful was Jim Wilson, who had secured a niche in Everett’s shopping habits. He sold Big Daddy German sausage, microwaved sandwiches, plastic champagne glasses and raspberry fruit rolls. In February he installed a Pac-Man machine.
The Everett Pacific Hotel was now the Ramada Everett Pacific with the local business joining the national franchise to boost room reservations. Manager Ron Anderson said the main change was just the name.
