Celebrate the sound of the flute

Flute Quest, an event celebrating the American Indian flute, continues today and Sunday at Country Village in Bothell.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Country Village, 237th Street SE and Bothell-Everett Highway.

Concerts, workshops, vendors, morning camps for kids and a silent auction are planned. The New Breath Stage offers an open-mike venue from 1 to 4 p.m. today.

Workshops include drum making and beading; flute making; flute history and advanced flute playing.

The event is free, with a fee for some of the performances and workshops.

Whidbey Prowlers coming home

Electronic Attack Squadron 138 “Yellow Jackets” are scheduled to return to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station on Sunday from a seven-month deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The four EA-6B Prowlers and crew plan to fly in at 11 a.m. Sunday from the USS Stennis.

The squadron of 200 men and women left in January, flying more than 650 hours of combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan.

School supplies available

The Lake Stevens Family Center plans an event Sunday to provide school supplies to children in need.

The Back-To-School Bonanza is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Items expected to be available include:

  • backpacks

  • wide-, college-ruled and graph paper

  • erasers

  • markers

  • colored pencils

  • rulers for grade school students and projector rulers for secondary students

  • glue

  • wide- and college- ruled composition notebooks

  • rounded scissors

  • three-ring binders

  • highlighters

  • folders

  • pencil boxes or pencil pouches

  • black, blue and red ink pens

  • compasses

  • calculators

    Clothing will be provided for families in the Lake Stevens School District who need assistance in preparing their children to return to school.
