Civil War vet to be honored

A U.S. Army captain who fought during the Civil War is to be honored Saturday with the dedication of a bronze plaque at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

The ceremony is set for 1 p.m. at the grave of Robert K. Beecham. The cemetery address is 4504 Broadway, Everett.

Beecham, who was from Wisconsin, commanded a regiment of black troops. After the war he moved to Everett, where he spent 26 years as an author and civic leader.

The Everett-based Marcus Whitman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution arranged the event.

The United States celebrates Veterans Day on Wednesday.
