Robbie Burns, a 16-year-old Boy Scout in Troop 267 from Mill Creek, is participating in the first annual Livestrong Ride this Sunday, Sept. 25 in Portland, Ore.
The Livestrong Ride is being put on by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. It is a cycling event that raises money for the foundation’s advocacy, education, public health and research programs.
Burns is working on his Eagle project to assist completing a section of the Interurban Trail through Shoreline. This trail when completed will allow people to walk or ride from Seattle to Everett.
Burns was born with club feet and did not walk until he was 2 years old. He started riding bikes and racing BMX at 4 years old. Burns said Lance Armstrong’s determination and battle to overcome cancer inspired him to return to cycling on a road bike and to swim competitively with both the West Coast Aquatics team and the Jackson High School boy’s swim team. He plans to ride 100 miles on Sunday.
