Everett’s Koppenberg wins district in a playoff

BELLINGHAM – Everett’s Jacob Koppenberg birdied the first playoff hole to win the 4A Northwest District 1 boys golf championship Tuesday at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham.
Koppenberg, Kamiak’s Tommy Bullock and Meadowdale’s Jonathan Keane were all tied after Tuesday’s second round at 2-under-par 142.
Kamiak won the team title, edging Jackson by two points.
Six players tied for the final two state berths at 159. Andy White of Snohomish and Alex Hedlund of Arlington earned the spots, while Snohomish’s Ace Younggren will go to state as an alternate.

2A District 1 Tournament: Kurt Kvamme of Lynden Christian shot an even par 72 to finish the first round as the overall leader. Lakewood’s Adam Brisben is second, two strokes back and Mitch Kane of Archbishop Murphy finished sixth, five strokes back. Blaine leads the team competition with 98 points, with Lakewood (75) in second, and Archbishop Murphy (47) and Lynden Christian (47) tied for third.

3A District 1 Tournament: Medalist Paige Rachor of Bellingham completed the second round of the tournament with an 8-over par 80 to finish with a 156. The top 13 players advance to the state tournament and the 14th and 15th places serve as alternates. Shorecrest’s Carmie Malabanan qualified for the state tournament by shooting an 88 in the second round to finish eighth overall at 196. South Whibey’s Jenna Lindus finished 15th to qualify for state as an alternate.
