EVERETT – Let the real games begin.

After playing seven non-league games, five against league opponents, the Jackson and Everett boys soccer teams were ready to get the real season started.

It began with a Jackson 2-0 victory Wednesday over Everett in the Western Conference South game.

Timberwolves’ goalkeeper Nick McWhorter had his second shutout of the year and Matt Hatcher scored his second goal of the year for Jackson.

It came in the 65th minute of the game off an assist from Greg Hnilo.

Hatcher, a junior, is one of many new faces to the Jackson varsity squad. Jackson only returns two players from last years team.

“We use the preseason as a learning curve,” said ten-year Jackson coach Mike Bartley.

Jackson’s first goal was an own goal. It came off a dead ball on the left side that players from Everett and Jackson tried to head.

Instead it went off the back of an Everett player and into the goal.

The assist was credited to Jackson’s Marcelino Dumpit.

“We played well and got some good results. I think we’re going to be in a lot of tight games this season,” Bartley said, “We’ve got a good defensive team.”

Jackson (1-0 in league, 4-3-1 overall) and Everett (0-1, 1-7) have both played five games against Wesco South opponents.

Jackson has won two of its last three games beating Mariner and tying Lynnwood.

Everett hasn’t fared as well losing seven straight after winning their first game of the year.
