Clouds and showers through mid-day on Monday made for a less-than-perfect ending to a holiday weekend, but it may have kept some motorists at home, reducing Labor Day accidents.
Although a rollover accident was reported near Island Crossing and a five-car accident occurred near Marysville Monday afternoon, no one was seriously injured.
In an unrelated incident, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies gave chase to a speeding vehicle in the early morning hours of Labor Day. The driver, who fled her vehicle near Kayak Point, was quickly captured.
The five-car pileup near Marysville occurred at 12:27 p.m. on I-5 near the 88th Street exit.
Two people were transported to Providence Everett Medical Center. John L. Bodda, 44, from Marysville and Linda L. Chapman, 52, from Langley, British Columbia, were both treated for minor bumps and bruises and released, said hospital spokeswoman Cheri Russum.
The accident occurred when a pickup driven by Mark A. Pohl, 20, of Everett moved to the left to avoid slowing traffic, striking two other vehicles, according to a state patrol report. The rest of the cars involved in the accident were the result of this initial accident. Damage to the five vehicles was estimated at $22,500.
Pohl and thee others were uninjured in the accident: James M. McKee, 24 of Everett; Sylvia Willis, 27, and her passenger, 23-year-old Andy B. Willis, both from Wasilla, Arkansas.
Other accidents reported Monday by the state patrol included:
The vehicle chase began about 4:20 a.m. Monday when a truck was spotted speeding northbound on I-5 by a state patrol trooper, who asked the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
The truck, tracked by several deputies, exited the freeway at 4th Avenue in Marysville and continued on Marine Drive, said spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.
As it approached Kayak Point, the vehicle stopped suddenly and the female driver and two passengers fled on foot. The driver jumped over a railing and ran down an embankment, but a deputy quickly apprehended her.
The driver, a 25-year-old from Monroe, was booked into the county jail for investigation of felony alluding of an officer, Jorgensen said.
