Providence Health &Services is offering free classes to help those approaching age 65 sort out their Medicare options. The informational sessions, hosted at Providence locations by Connexion Insurance Solutions, a local independent agent, are scheduled through December.

VETERAN RESOURCES

A one-stop resource center in Lynnwood serves veterans and their families. Local professionals are available at the center to assist with referrals to Veterans Affairs, medical and employment assistance, career transitions — or to offer a cup of coffee with conversation. The center, organized by the city of Lynnwood and Snohomish County Human Services, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and on the first Wednesday of each month at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, Madrona Room, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

EARLY ONSET MEMORY LOSS

Are you concerned about your memory loss? The Alzheimer’s Association Early Stage Younger Onset support groups provide a place to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are living with mild memory loss and related changes. It is open to those concerned about memory loss whose conditions were diagnosed before age 65. Meetings are 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in Lynnwood. Pre-registration is required. NUTRITION FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Trying to encourage healthy eating for your elementary child (age 5-11)? Learn tips for engaging your child with food in a healthful way while also preserving your sanity at meal times. This class, led by a registered dietitian nutritionist, is intended for parents. It takes place 6-7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. NUTRITION FOR GROWING TEENS

Hoping your teen (age 12 and over) will make healthful food choices at home and when away? Learn tips for including your teen in planning and prepping meals, increasing cooking confidence and choosing healthful snacks on-the-go. Class will be led by a registered dietitian nutritionist. NATURAL HALLOWEEN SWEETS

Join a registered dietitian nutritionist for fun, freaky food science. Fall favorites and naturally sweet Halloween treats will be created and tasted during this free hands-on cooking class, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29, at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Space is limited and pre-registration is required at verdanthealth.org/events or 425-582-8600. Children should wear casual clothes to cook in and save costumes for Halloween. This class is for elementary-aged children and their parents/guardians. Registration is limited to 1 adult and 1-2 elementary-aged children per family. Please be certain that your family will be able to participate before registering.

SKY VALLEY CLASSIC

The Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA will present its 8th annual Sky Valley Classic run, with 10K, 5K and one mile scenic runs starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 29. Proceeds will benefit youth programs in Snohomish County. Registration fees range from $6 to $35 depending on ages and specific events. Dscounts are available through Oct. 1. HEART SCREENINGS

The Nick of Time Foundation will conduct heart screenings for teens and young adults ages 14-24 Nov. 2 at Kamiak High School, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. Results are reviewed by heart and sports-medicine specialists. Cost is a $25 donation to the foundation. Screenings begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 2. Sign-ups startnext week.
