Verizon Wireless plans grand opening

EVERETT — Verizon Wireless will celebrate the grand opening of its new store at 1405 SE Everett Mall Way in Everett Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

To help victims of domestic violence, Verizon Wireless will collect used wireless phones, batteries and chargers at the store through Dec. 31. The phones are given to shelters to provide security and mobility to domestic violence victims.

  • Thursday prices: Gold sold for $264.85 a troy ounce, silver sold for $4.81 and platinum sold for $594.80.

  • UPS orders cargo jets: The airline subsidiary of United Parcel Service said Thursday it will take delivery of 13 MD-11 jumbo jets through 2004 that the Boeing Co. will convert from passenger to cargo use. The deal includes options for another 22 jets. The agreement is worth more than $2 billion if all 35 planes are delivered.
