COACH OF THE YEAR

Dan Pingrey

After a disappointing finish to 2012 and losing a number of seniors off of that team and promising freshman John Magnus, the Panthers head coach helped guide his team to a state semifinal appearance and a fourth-place trophy.

ALL-AREA TEAMS

First Team

Forward

Juan Machuca

Sr., Snohomish

The Panthers forward scored 11 goals and had six assists to lead Snohomish to a district title and a fourth-place finish at state.

Miguel Medina

Sr., Mariner

The Marauders’ offense began and often ended with this senior striker. Medina scored 18 goals and assisted on 14 others as Mariner won the Wesco 4A South and advanced to the state tournament.

Midfielder

Josh Bartley

Sr., Archbishop Murphy

Whether setting up goals with fancy footwork or long throw-ins, this Wildcat attacking midfielder assisted on 20 Archbishop Murphy goals and scored 17 himself as the Wildcats won the Cascade Conference and advanced to state.

Coach’s comment: “Leader on and off the field. Great playmaking ability.” — Mike Bartley

Jalen Crisler

Sr., Archbishop Murphy

This Wildcats midfielder did a lot of everything for the Wildcats — most of it in the air. The rangy senior had 18 of his 22 goals on restarts and was a force on the backend of Murphy’s defense, earning the Cascade Conference Defensive MVP award.

Coach’s comment: “He’s a great in the air and distributor of the ball and a dead ball specialist.” — Mike Bartley

Cristhian Robles

Sr., Mariner

Despite being a goalkeeper for an Olympic Development Team and the Northwest Nationals select team, this Marauders midfielder anchored Mariner’s defense this year as the Marauders won the Wesco South 4A league title.

Coach’s comment: “He can play every position. He pretty much does what you tell him to do. He’s very understanding. He knows the game. I keep on telling him every time I don’t know why he wants to just play keeper. He could be the best center mid in the state.” — Vince DeSimone

Tyler Mayer

Sr., Snohomish

Along with Machuca, this tall attacking midfielder scored 16 goals and had nine assists in leading Snohomish to a Wesco 4A North, a district title and a spot in the state semifinals.

Defender

Blake Crutchfield

So., Snohomish

The sophomore defender not only anchored a strong Panthers defense but he was a master at the long throw-in that set up a number of goals, including two key goals in a state playoff victory over Camas.

Chris Mitalas

Sr., Mountlake Terrace

The Hawks defender was the undisputed leader of Terrace’s defense and also used his height to score three goals on restarts this season.

Logan Flem

Sr., Stanwood

This Spartans senior could have played anywhere on the field but gladly accepted where he was needed most: on defense. He helped lead a defense that gave up just 20 goals after surrendering 56 last year. He will head to Molde Folkenhogskole in Norway for school and to play soccer.

Cobi Weyers

Sr., Archbishop Murphy

This Wildcats defender led a defense that averaged 0.82 goals against this season. He was voted MVP of the defense by his teammates and assisted on six goals.

Goalkeeper

Brennen Countryman

Sr., Lake Stevens

The Vikings goalkeeper record six shutouts and had a 1.25 goals against average for the season.
