Students’ project beautifully crafted

Thank you to the students in Debra Howell and Mike Schireman’s multi-age classroom at Monte Cristo Elementary in Granite Falls for a wonderful fund-raiser! I was excited to see a fund-raiser based on literacy that involved the students in all aspects. To raise money for military personnel, a picture was taken of each dog owner with his or her dog. Students then interviewed the owners with very thoughtful questions they clearly had spent a lot of time working on, wrote a paragraph about each one using the interview information, and wrote a personal and very heartwarming Haiku for each participant.

When the poems and interview summaries were completed, the students hosted a gallery walk at the school where we could see all the pictures and poems. I was extremely impressed with all their work and pleased to see a fund-raiser involving literacy. My family loves our Haiku. Thank you also to Wild For Pets in Granite Falls for setting up a place in their store to take the pictures. Congratulations to the 4th, 5th and 6th graders in Monte Cristo’s multi-age classroom. Well done!
