Broadcasts of city meetings get closed captioning

EVERETT — Everett’s broadcasts of City Council, council committee and planning commission meetings will have closed captioning for hearing-impaired viewers.
The service is to be provided by an outside company that will transcribe the meetings remotely in real-time. The city has contracted with Oklahoma-based Florida Captioning Services for a maximum of $20,000.
The city also plans to introduce a standard template for presentations at those meetings to improve is readability for people with low vision.
The closed captioning was to begin with the Nov. 30 council meeting. The presentation template is scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks.
The meetings are broadcast live on the Everett Channel and rebroadcast throughout the week. For a full schedule, go to everettwa.gov/everettchannel.
