Unjustified to change state’s deadly force law

Published 1:30 am Thursday, December 1, 2016

Regarding the article, “State panel wants law changed on police use of deadly force”: As a proud parents of a law enforcement officer, we are unalterably opposed to any amendments to the Deadly Force Law.

The task force’s recommended revised language is unjustified and unnecessary.

If the task force would spend its time, money and influence teaching people to show respect and follow a law officer’s commands, their perceived problem would dissipate.

A law enforcement officer has a split second to make a life or death decision, and the opposition has years to try to send police officers to jail, and collect huge settlements. Having to go to jail because a shrewd attorney has had unlimited time to show a mistake has been made is abhorrent.

The law as written levels the playing field. Anyone proven guilty of murdering a law enforcement officer should have an automatic death penalty.

Police lives matter!

Remember, law enforcement officers serve and protect all of us.
