REFLECTIONS: Tips erase four deficits, defeat last-place Giants

Published 1:30 am Friday, December 9, 2016

The Game

It was quite the spectacle north of border tonight where the Everett Silvertips outlasted the Vancouver Giants 5-4 in a shootout at Langley Events Centre.

The Giants have struggled this season and are last in the Western Conference. Yet the Silvertips never led in the contest.

Instead Everett rallied from four deficits to ensure it would earn a point for the 17th time in its last 18 games.

Feel free to check out the game coverage for the play-by-play specifics.

Some highlights:

– Noah Juulsen tied his career high with his ninth goal. He’s headed to Quebec for Hockey Canada World Junior selection camp on Saturday.

– Carter Hart wasn’t particularly sharp for the third straight game, but saved all three of Vancouver’s shootout attempts for the victory. Hart will join Juulsen en route to Quebec in the morning.

– Patrick Bajkov had two more assists and now has a team-best 39 points.

– Jake Christiansen also had two assists.

– Eetu Tuulola scored a goal and scored the only goal in the shootout.

– Vancouver goaltender Ryan Kubic was sensational with 49 saves on Everett’s 53 shots.

The Turning Point

Hard to pick in this one. We’ll go with the entire overtime period because the Tips were 2-5 in overtime games coming in – a fact head coach Kevin Constantine lamented after Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to Tri-City.

Three Stars

1. Vancouver F Thomas Foster: Foster had a goal and an assist and was plus-three.

2. Everett F Patrick Bajkov: Bajkov had two assists and was plus-three

3. Vancouver G Ryan Kubic: Kubic saved 49 shots in a hard-luck loss.

Honorable mention: A whole bunch, so here’s the Box Score.
