There was more news on the goalie situation with Team Canada at World Juniors. Everett goaltender Carter Hart was benched in favor of Kamloops Blazers netminder Connor Ingram for Canada’s quarterfinal contest on Monday.
Canada defeated the Czech Republic 5-3 to reach the semifinals. Ingram faced just nine shots through the first two periods and allowed two goals. The Czechs fired off 10 shots in the final period with Ingram turning away nine.
Canada will face Sweden in the semis on Wednesday. Russia will take on the USA in the other semifinal.
If you pay close attention to the video you’ll see Carter Hart at 15 seconds and Noah Juulsen at 20 seconds:

The goaltending position has been a source of much angst for fans of Team Canada in recent years and the pressure on both Hart and Ingram has been intense.
In talking with some people at Everett’s practice today, it sounds like dealing with this sort of adversity will help Hart as he continues to prepare for a professional career. Philadelphia is a notoriously tough sports town, so any experience Hart can glean in dealing with the scrutiny at World Juniors will certainly assist him in the future.
Meanwhile, the Mac’s Tournament wrapped up on Sunday as the Team Belarus U-17s knocked off the Saskatoon Contacts 6-1 for the title.
Belarus was 7-0-0 in the tournament.
On Friday I had this post that looked at Everett’s four prospects participating in the tournament. None of those four players competed for teams that advanced beyond the round-robin stage, so there is nothing new to report there.
Back in Everett, the Silvertips practiced Monday as they enjoy another welcomed break between games after playing three in four nights to open the second half of the season. The Tips play at Seattle Friday and at Portland Saturday. Yes, the game at Portland will begin about the time the Seahawks hit halftime of their playoff game with the Detroit Lions.
Finally, in case you missed it I had this blog entry earlier today after speaking with former Tips star Dan Gendur who dropped the ceremonial first puck last Friday.
