Former Bellevue High School football coach Butch Goncharoff has been named to the same position at Cedar Park Christian-Bothell.
The school released a statement Tuesday confirming Goncharoff’s appointment. Eagles athletic director Todd Lundberg said the statement serves “as the extent of our comment.”
“After a year out of high school coaching he is excited to become a part of a Christian school and looks forward to not only coaching football but, more important, helping build young men of character and integrity,” the statement read.
CPC-Bothell posted the following on its Facebook page Monday: “In a meeting with administration on Monday to finalize his hiring, Butch said, ‘I have thought about coaching at a Christian school for several years. This is where I want to be. This is where I’m supposed to be. I’m excited to get started.’ ”
Goncharoff coached at Bellevue for 16 years, leading the Wolverines to 11 state championships and compiling a record of 193-14. He was removed from his job in 2016 following an investigation that determined the program violated Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules.
CPC-Bothell posted a 4-6 record in 2016. Goncharoff replaces Bill Marsh, who coached the Eagles the past three seasons.
CPC-Bothell competes in the Cascade Conference along with Archbishop Murphy, King’s, Sultan, South Whidbey, Granite Falls and Cedarcrest. Archbishop Murphy is the defending Class 2A state football champion.
