MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Drivers heading through Mountlake Terrace to Lynnwood on northbound I-5 early Sunday morning should prepare for delays.
Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to close much of the interstate that direction just before midnight as they remove an old sign bridge structure. One lane will be open to traffic at all times, except for a rolling slowdown from about 3 to 3:30 a.m. when all traffic will be stopped. All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m.
The work area covers 2.5 miles of northbound I-5, between 236th Street SW and Highway 524 (44th Avenue W). The northbound I-5 HOV off-ramp to the Lynnwood Park and Ride will be closed from midnight to 8 a.m.
Crews eventually will replace the sign structure. In the meantime, temporary signs will be placed along the right shoulder.
