The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County recently presented its 2017 Democracy in Action Award to Arlington Mayor Barbara Tolbert.

Tolbert was first elected to office in 2011 and is now serving her second term. She has helped provide guidance and support in the wake of the March 2014 landslide in nearby. She also is leading an effort by Arlington and Darrington to apply for an “America’s Best Communities” award.

Pat Fogarty-Cramer, who nominated the mayor for the League’s Democracy in Action Award, said Tolbert “exemplifies leadership by example and encourages the involvement of citizens in their government. Democracy is alive and well in this community today because of her desire to see it thrive and develop into a vibrant environment for future generations.”
