The Herald’s 2017 All-Area baseball teams

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Brandon Mitchell, Edmonds-Woodway, sr. Mitchell recorded a .432 batting average, .567 on-base percentage, .797 slugging percentage and four home runs. He was a first-team All-Wesco 3A South selection.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Wyatt Tonkin, Shorewood. Tonkin, whose wife, Alice, passed away at the beginning of the season, led the Thunderbirds to a second-place finish in Wesco 3A South with a 17-7 overall record and a berth to the 3A state tournament. He also surpassed 300 career wins this season.

FIRST TEAM

Pitcher

Will Smith, Shorewood, sr. Smith posted an 0.52 earned-run average, with 79 strikeouts and 10 walks in 54 innings. He was named to the All-Wesco 3A South first team.

Catcher

Travis Hagan, Meadowdale, jr. Hagan recorded a .310 batting average, 439 on-base percentage, and .519 slugging percentage, and hit two home runs. He threw out 11 of 20 potential base-stealers. He was named to the All-Wesco 3A South first team.

Infielders

Brandon Mitchell, Edmonds-Woodway, sr.

Kyler McMahan, Lynnwood, sr. McMahan posted a .479 batting average, .557 on-base percentage, .662 slugging percentage and one home run. He was selected to the All-Wesco 3A South first team.

Ryan Ober, Glacier Peak, sr. Ober recorded a .441 batting average, .582 on-base percentage, .662 slugging percentage and one home run. He was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection.

Arthur Pate, Shorewood, sr. Pate posted a .410 batting average, .460 on-base percentage, .551 slugging percentage and 12 stolen bases. He was named to the All-Wesco 3A South first team.

Outfielders

Colton Bunt, Glacier Peak, sr. Bunt posted a .351 batting average, .500 on-base percentage, .824 slugging percentage and eight home runs. He was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection.

Carter Booth, Jackson, jr. Booth recorded a .487 batting average, .556 on-base percentage and .763 slugging percentage. He was named to the All-Wesco 4A first team.

Ethan Smith, Glacier Peak, sr. Smith posted a .485 batting average, .581 on-base percentage, .735 slugging percentage and hit one home run. He was a first-team All-Wesco 4A pick.

SECOND TEAM

Pitcher

Nick Hull, Edmonds-Woodway, sr. Hull posted a 2.02 earned-run average, with 101 strikeouts and 19 walks in 66 innings. He was selected to the All-Wesco 3A South first team.

Catcher

Tristan Sheward, Arlington, sr. Sheward recorded a .348 batting average, .549 on-base percentage and .521 slugging percentage. He was a first-team All-Wesco 3A South pick.

Infielders

Adam Ivelia, Snohomish, sr. Ivelia posted a .395 batting average, .459 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. He was named to the All-Wesco 3A North first team.

Michael Attalah, Cedar Park Christian-Bothell, sr. Attalah recorded a .451 batting average, .521 on-base percentage, .622 slugging percentage, three home runs and 15 stolen bases. He was named the Cascade Conference player of the year.

Connor O’Brien, Archbishop Murphy, sr. O’Brien posted a .457 batting average, .542 on-base percentage, .929 slugging percentage, two home runs and 15 stolen bases. He was a first-team All-Cascade Conference pick.

Ben Steck, Jackson, soph. Steck recorded a .373 batting average, .580 on-base percentage, .569 slugging percentage and 23 walks. He was named to the All-Wesco 4A second team.

Outfielders

Collin Montez, Archbishop Murphy, sr. Montez posted a .444 batting average, with a .521 on-base percentage, .759 slugging percentage, one home run and seven stolen bases. He was a first-team All-Cascade Conference pick.

Jake Fredrickson, Shorewood, sr. Frederickson recorded a .319 batting average, a .447 on-base percentage, .536 slugging percentage and two home runs. He was a first-team All-Wesco 3A South pick.

Gavin Rork, Arlington, jr. Rork posted a .412 batting average, .560 on-base percentage, .575 slugging percentage, 27 walks and 12 stolen bases. He was named to the All-Wesco 3A North first team.
