Everett CC names its athletes of the year

Trent Tinglestad played a major role in helping the Everett Community College baseball team place second at the Northwest Athletic Conference baseball championships in May. Last week he was honored by the school for his contribution.

Tinglestad, a graduate of Marysville Pilchuck High School, was named the Everett CC Male Athlete of the Year.

Tinglestad, a freshman outfielder, hit .373 in 48 games for a Trojans team that fell one win short of claiming the conference title, leading the team in that category and finishing eighth in the NWAC. He also scored 46 runs (second on the team), drove in 34 (tied for third) and drew 30 walks (second). He was named first-team All-NWAC.

The school named softball player Anya Predojevic its Female Athlete of the Year. Predojevic, a sophomore infielder from Vancouver, British Columbia, led the Trojans in batting at .345 in 40 games. She also finished second on the team in RBI (25) and led the team in walks (21).

Everett’s baseball team was named the Athletic Team of the Year.

Edmonds CC honors Needham, Kanae

Baseball player Zach Needham and softball player Kamryn Kanae were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively, by Edmonds Community College at its athletic banquet June 6.

Needham, a sophomore infielder from Puyallup, was named the NWAC’s Most Valuable Player after batting .373 with a league-leading 10 home runs and 55 RBI in 41 games. He was selected in the 40th round of last week’s Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners.

Kanae, a sophomore outfielder from Kapolei, Hawaii, hit .453 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI and was was named first-team All-North Region.

Also, women’s soccer player Michele Bodzweski, a sophomore defender from Seattle, received the NWAC’s Red Lion Women’s Scholarship Award on June 1 in Salem, Oregon.
