Granite Falls: District celebrates class of 1911
The Granite Falls School District plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Granite Falls High School graduating class.
District alumni are invited to gather with classmates, teachers and friends during the event schedu
led for 1:30 p.m. June 9 at Granite Falls High School.
Those who attend may bring school items to display that will help recreate the school over the past 100 years such as an old baseball uniform, a program from a past graduation ceremony, or a classmate autograph book.
The event at 1401 100th St NE is set to begin with a school assembly that will include a slide show about the history of the school, special recognition of the Class of 1911, James Ashe, Fred Noble and Lizze Kruse, and a “move-up” tribute to the Class of 2011.

Oak Harbor: Battle of Midway remembered
Whidbey Island Naval Air Station plans to host a commemoration of the Battle of Midway at 9 a.m. Friday at the Crescent Harbor Marina boat deck on the Seaplane Base in downtown Oak Harbor.
Regarded as the turning point in the Pacific during World War II, the Battle of Midway marked the coming of age of carrier aviation.
Speaking is retired Cmdr. Harry Ferrier, who was a 17-year-old radioman/gunner who flew into battle June 4, 1942, with Torpedo Squadron 8 in a Grumman TBF-1 “Avenger” and was one of the few who returned.
The event will include a wreath laying ceremony, the NAS Whidbey Island Color Guard, music by members of the Navy Band Northwest and a reception in Simard Hall.
Stanwood: Library open house Sunday
The Stanwood-Camano Friends of the Library and Sno-Isle Libraries staff plan an open house from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday to celebrate the beginning of daily library service in Stanwood.
The open house will have refreshments, stories for children and the unveiling of an original Jack Gunter painting that was commissioned by the Friends of the Library for the children’s area.
The Stanwood Library is located at 9701 271st St. NW, Stanwood. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Mukilteo: Comment on Japanese Gulch
Mukilteo officials are seeking public comments on the proposed Japanese Gulch master plan.
The plan considers potential improvements including trails, a picnic area, a dog park, environmental restoration and educational projects.
A public hearing on the plan is scheduled at Monday’s City Council meeting. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Mukilteo City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way. Written comments are accepted until 4:30 p.m. Monday.
