Gov. Chris Gregoire’s decision to retire leaves a wide-open race to replace her.

So far, Dennis Kucinich, the nomadic congressman, has not signaled an interest in the job. Kucinich would not only run a spirited campaign from the left, but also introduce gluten-free pancakes and vegan sausage to a broad swath of Eastern Washington at his campaign breakfast meet-and-greets there.

And they’re off: On the national political scene, the Republican presidential candidates gathered for their first major debate of the campaign season in Manchester, N.H.

Pundits said former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann both fared well, but it also was a good night for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich: No mass resignations from his campaign staff were reported.

Oh, hello, Mother: Comcast Corp. says it’s working on a system for taking Skype video calls on your TV while you’re watching your favorite shows.
