EDMONDS — Edmonds-Woodway High School has announced the hiring of Steve Call as its boys basketball head coach.

“We are excited to welcome Steve Call as our new boys basketball coach and look forward to what Steve has to offer the Edmonds-Woodway boys basketball program,” said Edmonds-Woodway athletic director Julie Stroncek in an e-mail. “He brings a great amount of experience as both a player and coach and comes highly recommended for his knowledge of the game and being a student of the game who continually seeks to learn more.”

Call played high school basketball at Curtis and competed for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while attending the University of Washington. He coached AAU basketball for eight years before becoming an assistant coach at Juanita H.S.

Call has been the head coach at Shoreline Christian the past three seasons. His Shoreline Christian team was 12-2 (18-5 overall) and second in the Northwest 1A/2B League last season.

“I’ve been wanting to get back to a large school,” Call said. “I love coaching guys who want to play and are committed.

“It’s tough when you have 65 (total students) in a high school.”

Call replaces Todd Rubin, who left Edmonds-Woodway to become an assistant coach at Northwest University in Kirkland. He inherits a team which was 5-9 (10-13 overall) and finished second in the Wesco South last season.
