Swedish hospital executives change jobs

EDMONDS — The chief executive who helped lead the former Stevens Hospital into its partnership with Seattle’s Swedish Health Services last year is leaving his post to take another job within Swedish.
Mike Carter, 58, has been appointed as chief administrative officer of Swedish’s First Hill campus in Seattle, the largest of the organization’s five hospitals.
The chief administrator position at Swedish/Edmonds will be filled on an interim basis by David Jaffe, 62, who served for 16 years as chief executive of Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. He left that job in 2007.
The changes were announced Wednesday and will occur on June 1, said Ed Boyle, a Swedish spokesman.
Carter is taking on the position vacated by Swedish’s former chief operating officer Cal Knight, who left in April to lead a health care system in California.
Carter became chief executive of the former Stevens Hospital in Edmonds in 2006 and helped launch improvements in clinical care and its financial performance. Swedish took over administration of the hospital in September.
Jaffe has been under contract with Swedish since last year. He will oversee the Edmonds hospital for six months. Swedish plans to name a permanent chief executive before Jaffe’s six-month tenure ends.
