GRANITE FALLS — A pair of losses on Thursday dropped the Granite Falls softball team into a first-place tie with Archbishop Murphy in the Cascade Conference.

Arianna Barrio went 5-for-5 as she led Lakewood to a 10-7 victory over the Tigers at Granite Falls High School. Earlier in the day, Sultan beat Granite Falls 7-5.

The two losses dropped Granite Falls’ record to 14-4 and into a first-place tie with the Knights.

Despite the two losses, Granite Falls coach Candi Reeves was happy with the effort of her team.

“I’m still really proud of my kids,” Reeves said. “Both teams (Sultan and Lakewood) showed up ready to play. I think it’s a good lesson, you can’t take anything for granted. On any given day, anything can happen.”

Lakewood rallied from a 6-2 deficit after two innings to beat the Tigers. Barrio scored four runs and teammate Kiana Smith had three hits and an RBI.

“They had 16 hits off of our pitchers, and that was pretty huge,” said Reeves. “They just started hitting the ball. They really pounced on our pitchers tonight.”

Granite Falls’ Haley Brennan had two hits, including three-run double, against Lakewood. Emily Walbon had three hits, including double and an RBI, and Peyton Spencer had two hits for Granite Falls in the loss to Lakewood.

Sultan’s Courtney Morris had a double and a triple and teammate Breanna Johnson had two hits for the Turks in the first game. Granite Falls’ Walbon had two hits.
