EVERETT — A spark that ignited a curtain in a house in the 5800 block of Oakes Avenue on Wednesday morning caused about $20,000 in damage.
No one was injured.
Everett firefighters were called around 10:40 a.m. They had the blaze knocked down in about six minutes.
Fire Marshal Rick Robinson said the fire was caused by a spark from either a heater or an outlet that ignited curtains in the kitchen-living room area of the home.
A woman who lives in the house attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.
She then got out of the home and called 911.
“She really did everything right,” Robinson said.
The Snohomish County chapter of the American Red Cross was called to help the woman find a place to stay because of the extensive smoke damage, Robinson said.
