The 900 new words admitted into the Oxford English Dictionary include OMG and several other Internet-age acronyms.
Actually, it turns out that OMG’s been around a while. Its first confirmed use was in 1917 by a British admiral, who telegraphed a friend, “OMG GR8 victory at Ypres R lads advanced 50 yds in mud LOL”
331/3: Compact discs have pretty much gone the way of cassette tapes, but the LP is making a bit of a comeback, thanks in part to teens and young adults who discovered their parents’ (or grandparents’) stash of old albums in the attic.
OK, kid, you can listen to my old Joni Mitchell records. Now take that Facebook thing off my computer.
I.T. Dept.: Speaking of kids these days, the Mountlake Terrace Library will hook you up with a tech-savvy teenager who will show you how to use gadgets like an iPhone.
The program’s free, but middle-age folks might consider repaying the teen helpers by explaining how escrow works.
