Waiting for the gecko’s gig: Having fired comedian Gilbert Gottfried, the Aflac insurance company is looking for someone new to provide the “Aflac!” quack in its commercials. Rather than a celebrity, Aflac is opening up the competition to all and is soliciting 30-second audio or video clips. Aflac fired Gottfried for insensitive comments he posted on Twitter about Japan’s earthquake and tsunami.
So, fair warning: If you want to quack, careful what you tweet.

I want my ETV: Everett officials are considering whether to spend nearly a half-million dollars on new equipment for its television studio, used to tape interviews with the mayor and produce other shows for local cable systems.
OK, but we expect some shows with higher production values. Charlie Sheen’s looking for a new series, isn’t he? Get him to interview the mayor.

‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky: Seattle has reached an agreement with the organizers of Hempfest, the three-day celebration of green vegetable matter that is scheduled for Aug. 19-21 at Myrtle Edwards Park. Seattle initially thought the festival would interfere with construction of a pedestrian overpass at the park.
But the overpass won’t be necessary as those at Hempfest will already be floating 8 feet off the ground.
