The parent trap
Just when we got the hang of LOL: The author of a book on encouraging communication between mothers and daughters recommends that parents learn the alpha-numeric code that kids use in text messages. “CD9,” for example means “parent in room.”.
Of course, now that this information has fallen into the hands of the enemy, the Youth League of Secrecy has reprogrammed its cipher technology and will be transmitting the new code to your kids later this week.
Oh, poo! Parents who are a little tired of their kids engaging in potty talk can take some pointers from an early childhood expert who recommends simply explaining that there are times and places where it’s not appropriate.
If that doesn’t work just hold up a photo of Charlie Sheen and tearfully tell them that you hope they don’t end up like him.
Not the Queen’s speech: During Sunday night’s Academy Awards, Melissa Leo, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her portrayal of a mother turned boxing agent in “The Fighter,” apparently stepped into character and dropped the F-bomb on broadcast TV during her acceptance speech.
Parents, holding up a photo of Melissa Leo to discourage them for using the F-word probably won’t be as effective, but it may lead to a career in acting.
