Published 1:30 am Monday, October 2, 2017

Two individuals with Everett ties are now members of the Eastern Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Everett native Jim Schmidt and Everett resident Pat Sievers were members of the 1992 Eagles football team that was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame on Sept. 25.

Schmidt, a graduate of Everett High School who now works in the Everett School District, and Sievers, who owns and operates Everett Downtown Storage, were key members of the Eastern team that shared the 1992 Big Sky Championship with Idaho. The Eagles finished the season 6-1 in conference and 7-4 overall, finished 14th in the final NCAA I-AA poll, and advanced to the national playoffs, where they lost 17-14 in the first round to Northern Iowa.

Schmidt was the starting center on the team, earning first-team All-Big Sky honors. Sievers was the starting strong safety and was named second-team All-Big Sky while also earning Big Sky All-Academic honors.

The 1992 team is the fifth football team to be inducted into the Eastern Hall of Fame, joining the 1950, 1967, 1985 and 1997 squads.
