Gonzaga basketball lands big man from Serbia

SPOKANE — The Gonzaga men’s basketball team has signed Filip Petrusev to an NCAA letter of intent.

The 6-foot-11 forward from Serbia is considered one of the top prospects in European basketball.

Petrusev played a key role in helping Serbia win the Under-18 European Championship this summer, averaging 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.7 blocks per 40 minutes.

Petrusev recently enrolled at Montverde Academy in Florida.

He picked the Zags over scholarship offers from a number of programs, including Kansas, Virginia, Utah, Tennessee, Florida, Indiana and Stanford.
