MUKILTEO — It took two extra periods, but Kamiak defeated its rival, Mariner, in double overtime in a Wesco 4A game Thursday.

The play of freshman Carson Tuttle, who delivered several clutch 3-pointers, was one of the keys to the Knights’ victory, Kamiak coach Cory West said.

“He’s a freshman, but he’s really composed on the court,” West said. “All his threes came in big places. He had two in the second half, two in overtime and one in double overtime. I have full confidence in him and the way that he plays. He looked cool calm and composed.”

Tuttle finished with 15 points, all on 3-point field goals.

Kevin Villalobos, who led Mariner with 31 points, hit a shot from the corner in the final two seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime.

“I was irritated in the breakdown in defense …,” West said. “But honestly, when we play Mariner its always a close game.”

Kamiak (4-1 in league) plays Wesco 4A-leading Jackson at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson High School.
