See the play “Silent Sky” Feb. 8-24, which dramatizes the life of American astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt. Her story captures the essence of being female and a scientist during a time when it was considered paradoxical to be both. It’s a murder mystery with a number of surprises: The victim is not who it should be, the murderer’s identity changes overnight and the thrills are leavened with tongue-in-cheek humor. Red Curtain: The Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave., Suite J, Marysville (in the Goodwill shopping center, behind the Everett Community College cosmetology school); 360-322-7402; redcurtainfoundation.org. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” will be staged March 1-17. Five very different bridesmaids find themselves hiding together in a bedroom, hoping to escape the wedding reception of a bride that — they soon realize — none of them actually like. Shows are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18 general and $15 students, seniors and military, $10 for children 12 and younger.

Ludus Performing Arts: The youth theater company presents the Tony Award-winning “Once on This Island” through Feb. 16 at the Snohomish County PUD Auditorium, 2320 California St., Everett.
