County clarifies digital sign rules for rural Clearview

CLEARVIEW — The Snohomish County Council granted businesses in Clearview’s rural commercial zone permission to display digital signs by passing updated regulations Wednesday.

The ordinance applies to a 115-acre unincorporated area along Highway 9 between Maltby and Cathcart.

A couple of business in the area had signs already, though they weren’t allowed under existing regulations.

Neighbors have raised concerns about how a proliferation of signs could contribute to distracted-driving crashes on Highway 9, and detract from the area’s rural character.

The new regulations passed 3-2, with Councilmembers Stephanie Wright and Brian Sullivan opposed.
