Big 2nd period lifts Silvertips to win over Winterhawks

EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips scored three goals in the second period to break open a tied game and cruised to a 4-1 win over the U.S. Division-leading Portland Winterhawks on Saturday evening at Angel of the Winds Arena.
After Everett’s Dawson Butt and Portland’s Jaydon Dureau traded goals in the first period, Jackson Berezowski, Justyn Gurney and Gage Goncalves scored in the second to stake the Silvertips to a three-goal lead.
Jake Christiansen had two assists and Butt added an assist to go with his goal to lead the Everett offense.
Dustin Wolf stopped 18 of 19 shots for the Silvertips.
Joel Hofer stopped 22 of 26 shots for the Winterhawks.
With the win, Everett (36-12-3-1) pulled to within seven points of Portland (38-8-3-4) in the race for the division title.
