Three of Snohomish County’s four community college basketball teams need an extra game to determine their postseason fates.
The Edmonds CC men’s and women’s teams, along with the Everett CC women’s team, all will be involved in play-in games Saturday to determine whether they earn a berth to the Northwest Athletic Conference Basketball Championships.
The top four teams from each of NWAC’s four regions qualify for the NWAC tournament. However, the Edmonds men and women and the Everett women all finished tied for fourth in the North Region when regular season play concluded Wednesday night, necessitating one-game playoffs to determine which teams earn the region’s final tournament berths.
The Edmonds men (9-5 league, 17-11 overall) won their final three games to pull into a three-way tie for third in the North Region. Shoreline held the three-way tiebreaker to claim third place. Edmonds and Peninsula face one another for the final tournament spot at 4 p.m. Saturday at Peninsula.
The Everett women (6-8, 14-15) and Edmonds women (6-8, 9-18) finished tied for fourth in the North Region. They play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Everett for the final women’s tournament berth.
The NWAC tournament takes place next Thursday through Sunday, then concludes on March 14-15, all at the Walt Price Student Fitness Center on the campus of Everett CC. The Everett men, who finished first in the North Region, have already qualified.
