Ask candidates for office where they intend to lead us

I agree with Dan Hazen’s recent letter that we can’t go far wrong if we choose our leaders from among people with the qualities that he lists. As he has pointed out, there is within these qualities room for a wide range of policies.

With that in mind, I personally have two additional considerations:

Where do they want to lead us? Do I want to go there?
