Oak Harbor’s big-bearded Wicked Teuton brewer killed in crash

The owner of an Oak Harbor brewing company was killed in a motorcycle accident in Yakima County on Friday, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Terrell “Terry” Boese was riding a Harley-Davidson on State Route 821 just south of the Yakima River Canyon when he collided with a Ford F-150 pickup towing a boat trailer four miles north of Selah, according to troopers.

Boese tried to pass the pickup as the driver was attempting to turn left; the motorcycle struck the truck and boat, the State Patrol reported.

The accident was reported at 11:30 a.m.

Boese was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Boese, a self-proclaimed “proud zymurgist,” was well-known in the North Whidbey beer scene for his big beard and big love of brewing.

Boese opened Whidbey Island Homebrew Supply four years ago in Oak Harbor.

The business expanded into a tasting room and spawned Wicked Teuton Brewing, a well-regarded microbrewery and taproom offering a variety of local craft beers and ciders. It was known for partnering with Sno-Isle Library to host popular trivia nights on a variety of literacy and pop-culture themes.

Boese was a Navy veteran and an instructor at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Whidbey Island.
